John E Mack – Experiencers

Dr. John E. Mack appears only briefly in this film, his death having occurred soon after production started. More substantial are visits to the New England countryside with experiencers, including one couple who videotaped an unidentified flying object hovering above a lake a few hours before they were abducted from their lakeside cottage. Also in this film, is the New York artist and alien encounter investigator Budd Hopkins.

Although this documentary is similar to other documentaries commonly seen on American cable television, it has a more leisurely pace and gives more time for the experiencers to clarify themselves than is commonly granted in US productions. One of the best interviews in the program is not with an experiencer at all, but rather with the husband of an experiencer, who matter-of-factly clarifies how his family has come to terms with his wifes experiences.

Dr. John Mack: Alien Abductions

by admin on Nov.12, 2009, under UFO phenomenon

“When a colleague of mine questioned me would l like to meet Budd Hopkins, I answered, Who’s he? She told me he was an artist in New York who worked with people who reported being taken by alien beings into spaceships. I said something to the effect that he must be crazy and so must they.”

So started the journey of Dr. Mack… a journey he couldn’t possibly, in all his years, thought he would take. Dr. John Mack was at the top of his game, a tenured Harvard Professor of psychiatry, tons of published papers and a Pulitzer Prize for “A Prince of Our Disorder”, his biographical study of the life of British officer T. E. Lawrence. He had achieved what few scientists have achieved, he had become…one of the best in his field.

January 10, 1990 was when John Mack met Budd Hopkins and the rest is UFO abduction history. We in the UFO community read proclamations like John made everyday. It’s not hard to know how a excellent person may react to “Alien Abduction”, but John Mack was different. You see, Dr. Mack, in his soul, was a pure scientist who’s soul stretched far beyond the accolades and awards. John knew intrinsically that outright rejection of thoughts, because of preconceived notions, dooms a scientist to mediocrity. (sorry, Phil Plait)

John Mack listened to Budd with the ears of a right scientist and he realized these people where neither crazy nor hoaxing. He did something astonishing in the mainstream scientific field; he journeyed into UFO evidence land…with an open mind.

The striking similarities in details between abductees in Bud’s reports from all over country and the world could not be denied. A picture that was drawn from one abductee and shown to another peaked John’s interest. Hopkins had shown the woman abductee a picture drawn by another abductee of an alien being. The second abductee became extremely upset over the picture because it look exactly like the beings she encountered, which validated the reality of her experiences. Remember, this case was in the early 80s. If you had said, “grays” to this woman she would have probably thought you were talking about colors.

John Mack took a career risk, beyond even what he could have imagined, and investigated further. In his book, “Abductions” he describes his take on the debunkers, and I’m sorry to say, some UFO researchers’, mantra to clarify abductions. The dubunkers, backed by some studies, claim hypnosis cannot be relied on to retrieve accurate memories. “This question had received a fantastic deal of attention in both the UFO community and therapeutic communities”…he goes on:

“I believe this criticism cannot be supported (by these studies). Daniel Brown, a noted expert in the field of hypnosis research determined after carefully reviewing the literature on recall among trauma suffers, under hypnosis, that there been no studies of the memory in this population, i. e. , among individuals for whom the events in question are of core meaning or central importance. Rather, conclusions regarding the inaccuracy of recall under hypnosis have been based on studies in which an environmental context was made and memory was tested in relation to events that were of peripheral significance to the subject.”

In other words, the subjects didn’t care about their surroundings so of course their memories were not that detailed. You tend to remember more when you’re trying to survive; don’t you reckon?

One of the largest myths you will read on the internet and repeated by debunkers on all sides is that the abductee memories about “ETs” and Craft are brought out through hypnosis, and, therefore unreliable.

“Abductees may have a fantastic deal of conscious recall of their experiences without hypnosis.”

This was very evident with the “Barney Hill” report. The DVD clip below plays the actual video tape from his hypnosis where he faces his emotions, while conscious, of seeing the beings in his binoculars before he and Betty sped away.

An Abduction Case:

Joe was a psychotherapist with a professional development consulting firm. Joe has also been visited by ETs since he was young. Part of Joe’s job was helping others get over their fears but Joe had never confronted his own. Joe had many alien being encounters. When he was young he tried to tell his family. They tried to convince him he was only dreaming. Recently, a brother, who does not believe in abductions, admitted to him, “you know, Joe, you were always frightened of UFOs.”

He came to the conclusion he needed to “air it out” so he sought Dr. Mack.

“Joe’s first image under hypnosis was of a non-human being with a triangular face and a large forehead, narrow chin, and large black elliptical eyes. ‘it’s inviting me back…it’s moving away and drawling me foreword. It’s got long thin arms. God! It has a long thing back. It can go gently, it can go quick. It wants me to lie on the table. It’s looking at me deep in the eyes and telling me, to relax.’ Whispering now Joe said. “he was frightened because he knows they are going to do something…my whole spine aches my groin is on fire”

Dr. Mack took Joe back to before the abduction to find he had come upon a craft while out at night behind his barn. “The craft was real symmetrical…egg shaped.”

What happens next has been repeated in one way or another in hundreds of long term abduction accounts. Joe finds he has been in contact with them all his life. He develops and a right liking and bonding with one of these beings. There were more than one kind of entities on the ship. They implanted, took samples and all the other reported actions. He also talks about being in an alien body at times among other aliens. I felt like my thoughts are available to everyone…that there is nothing to hide. There is no shame…”

He felt they had communicated to him that he was to make things better for the “humans”. He believed that is what he is supposed to do on earth. The continuing details on this case is fascinating reading among other cases in the book, “Abductions, Human encounters with Alien” by Dr. John Mack.

I cannot end this post without mentioning that some at Harvard Medical school tried to take away Dr. John Mack’s tenure but their allegations shriveled in the light of day… but it was a drunk on a dark lonely street who achieved what the inquisitors couldn’t… steal away a powerful voice of a real scientist and a excellent man.
